XF 201: Day 60, 3x11 Revelations

Scully centric episode, woohoo! This is the first episode in which we really get to see her explore her faith, and it's jolting and kind of amazing to see the juxtaposition between the way she approaches potentially religious supernatural phenomena versus just supernatural phenomena. It's like the one area where she lets her skepticism waver.

Mulder instead becomes the skeptic, and I think it says a lot about his character that he's willing to believe in aliens and monsters and faeries and whatever but NOT in God. That's his line in the sand. I wonder if his lack of faith has anything to do with his childhood... you can just picture 12-year-old Mulder praying for God to return his sister to him, and those prayers go repeatedly unanswered to the point where he just figures no one is listening.

As I said about 731, I'm almost sad in a way that this show chose to go so heavy on the aliens. Episodes like this (and a few more later in the series) hint heavily that Scully is on some holy mission, and it would have been great to explore that more. Like the first 5 seasons of Supernatural, but with ass-kicking FBI agents instead of two obscenely handsome civvies.

There is crossover fic out there somewhere. There just has to be. For now, THIS! And THIS! And ALL OF THESE!!!
