As fans of the show know, the Shadows, with the help of Anna, manage to tempt John to go to Z'Ha'Dum to learn about what the Shadows are all about and their "middle man" Justin and Morden deliver their pitch. It was pretty obvious that John wasn't likely to be persuaded by their pitch and that he knew the whole trip was a trap and, basically he is proven right, by the Shadows seemingly attempting to kill him and launching a siege on Babylon 5. What I want to discuss is whether the Shadow philosophy is a viable one or if it is essentially doomed to failure, particularly as evidenced by the Shadow's cyclical retreats- once the younger races organize themselves against them, as what seems to happen every time they crawl out of the woodwork, so to speak. What races on B5 that we have seen on B5 for whom the Shadow philosophy might be appealing? Would it ever have been able to take hold anywhere?
