Stargate SG-1 Wedding

When the idea of getting married in front of a Stargate first came about it we were just throwing fantasies around and it seemed like a pipe dream; but as time passed it became more and more important to us. Eventually it became the central concept to tie together our day and the center piece to the whole wedding.

Construction

Construction began roughly 4 months ahead of the ceremony and in the end took about 125 hours to build including paint and wiring for the chevrons to light up.

The first step was to decide how big we wanted it to be, and we settled on just under 8 feet tall so that when we were done we could mount it on the wall inside our house. The gate itself comes apart into 3 equal pieces to make for easy transport.

The Stand

Our wedding took place at a lake in the heart of the Canadian Rockies where a lot of the off-world scenes in the show were filmed. The stand had to be able to withstand the possibilities of high wind and unleveled ground, as well as be portable and not block or take away from the Stargate itself in any way.

In the end it took more time, planning and resources than any other single portion of our wedding day and yes, there was even some blood lost... but it truly was worth every bit of it. Our day was so undeniably unique and fitting to who we are. Not to mention, we now have a Stargate in our house!
