The Ending?

Well, that was a hell of a ride. I watched the first half of the first episode and gave up on the show after seeing these crazy space haircuts and questionable VFX. But something made me go back, and by god I'm glad I did! Seasons 2-4 were up there with some of the best TV I've watched. The story was utterly fantastic and always kept me coming back for more. Season 5 was less interesting, the tone was wrong, it just felt different, but still enjoyable.

I just watched the last episode 10 mins ago.

I'm still trying to process everything but... they left a hell of a lot of open threads there. It was sad to see B5 go, and they did a good job with the ending, it was great to see Ivonova again! But they've set up this great Centauri conspiracy and the keeper for Sheridan's son, but we never see anything else about it. The only thing we know about Londo and G'Kar at the ending comes from time travelling earlier on in the series. I get that not every problem ought to be resolved and that things don't always go back to normal, but that was a lot of setup for absolutely no payoff. Are the Centauri simply doomed now? Will it be uncovered? Can they be liberated? It'd be nice to know.

And the whole buildup with the telepaths. Again, not everything has to be perfect, but that was a lot of work just to say 'some telepaths are pretty pissed at Psycorps and are fighting back'. I mean, we had to endure Byron, the singing and an insufferable Lyta just to learn that! Would have been interesting to see a clash there, Psycorps is clearly messed up, but the telepaths are annoyingly militant and dangerous, seeing the situation escalate, and how Earthgov and the Alliance would react to that would have been good. But again, it seemed like a lot of work in the buildup for no conclusion.

I was sure there was going to be a Telepath war. I kept remembering the vision in that time travel episode with Garabaldi with a big fucking gun shooting stuff up. Now, all the other visions happened, there was a lot of prophesy in B5 and almost all of it came true. It was actually really interesting how they made a show that spoils itself, but doesn't actually spoil it! But that never happened. Maybe I need to rewatch the episode as maybe they did something which altered the course of the future and undid that, but I was wondering for ages as to what that could be, I guess it was cut. When he started drinking again I thought "here we go, he's going to become a drunk, vengeful, angry guy, the likes of which you might see heroically fending off the enemy facilitating his commander's escape with a big fucking gun!", but instead he sorted himself out and became a successful CEO! Glad he survived at least!

So yeah, lots of loose ends there, but I don't care too much as they won't part of the 'main' story which was one of the best story arcs I've seen, right up there with the likes of BSG. As an aside, am I alone in the thinking that B5 looks incredibly dated for it's time? Not sure exactly what it is, but I certainly wouldn't have guessed it overlapped with SG-1, it looks closer to something from the 80's than 90's. It's not really a bad thing, just something I noticed!

Anyway, here's to the B5 crew and to the inevitable rewatch in about 6 months!
