TIL that Patrick Stewart was willing to give Hollywood a shot after finding that despite a lengthy career and comfortable living as an actor in London, his reputation was not enough to bring a production of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? to the West End.

He reluctantly signed a 6-year contract with Paramount for Next Generation after his agent and others all agreed that the series would quickly fail and he could soon get back to England, after earning some quick cash of course.
