I love re-watching all of the series since their relevance to current events seems to transcend space and time. Most recently I saw again DS9 S2E21 The Maquis, Part 2. Here, Quark has to explain to the Maquis vulcan, Sakonna, why they are acting illogically in fighting the Cardassians. Paraphrasing him, the message is to never spend more for an acquisition than you have to! The Maquis want to acquire peace, but at what cost? Right now peace can be bought at a bargain price. The Cardassians have weapons, the Maquis have weapons, EVERYONE has weapons, but right now no one has a clear advantage, and the price of peace is at an all time low. This is the perfect time to sit down and hammer out an agreement, as attacking now will only serve to escalate the conflict, and make peace more expensive in the long run. Now is that logical? This could apply to Russia, China, India, Pakistan, the Middle East, and of course the US. It's incredible how you can arrive at the same strategic conclusion whether you compare the military forces, or just economic impact. Clip below
