I have been enjoying Voyager on Netflix the past few months. Made it up to this episode in the 4th season so far. I just had to rant that they ripped off the movie Predator pretty obviously on this episode. The title of the episode is "Nemesis"
To start off, the episode takes place mostly in a jungle.
The shipwrecked 1st officer from Voyager falls in with a small team of fighters in camo uniforms.
They are using 20th century earth style gun technology.
All of that isn't a ripoff of Predator by itself. It gets way more obvious. But perhaps this setting is where the star trek producers/writers etc., started coming up with the idea to borrow some Predator stuff during production of the episode.
Then there's the episode's music. It's very similar to the music from Predator. All they needed was random bongo drum swells and it would have been impossible to tell the difference between the music from the 1st Predator movie and this episode of Voyager. The clincher that this was a deliberate ripoff is that no other music from Voyager is quite like this. Although, it is close enough to the usual music style of Voyager that it could pass by unnoticed by most people. I am rather into soundtrack music, so I recognized the predator influenced themes right away.
But then the coup de grace comes when the enemy reveals themselves and they are so obviously modeled after the Predator aliens that there can be no doubt.
It's like they were just out of alien look ideas at the time and someone came up with the idea of modeling them from Predator. And then the music crew saw the alien costumes and the jungle set and couldn't help but rip off some musical ideas from the movie too. It was just one similarity too many for me to let it go. I imagine the music people were the cheeky bastards to set the last Predator ripoff into the episode, since the music is usually done pretty much after everything else. idk how they could do that after the alien costumes. Maybe they just thought it would be like an added inside joke to anyone nerdy enough to hear the influence from the Predator soundtrack.
